Local Food and Eating Out

Tavistock, pictured above, is our nearest town a six mile drive away, offering very good local specialist shops and farmers markets. There's a choice of butchers and bakers, a fishmonger, cheese and olive shops and locally grown vegetable stalls.

Cream Teas are an important highlight for many and two places that have been named as favourites of our visitors are Powder Mills Pottery and Prince Hall Country House both on Dartmoor.

A twenty minute walk by road or footpath will take you to The Royal Inn at Horsebridge which enjoys a pretty location by the Tamar and offers great food and beer. If you'd like to really treat yourself The Horn of Plenty and Endsleigh Hotel are both only a few miles away offering wonderful food in splendid settings.

Tavistock offers a selection of restaurants, Chinese and Indian takeaways and a fish and chip shop.

Further afield the Royal William Yard in Plymouth is now the home to a collection of restaurants including one of Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen with delicious food and lovely views over to Cornwall and Mount Edgcumbe.
